Two things will be important when you are seriously looking for a green house. The general surroundings for the green house and the location and approach for such a house so as the daily consumption of energy would be reasonable to get your daily needs.
There is a simple yard stick to measure the criteria for a green house. Normally there are two types of houses. The first one will be a house whose location is with clear environment and the availability of all your daily needs are within the normal reach and the second one would be,there may be having all the satisfactory conditions for a perfect environment but far away from the point from where you can have your daily needs. The former one we can classify as the green home because of the simple reason that you are saving quite bit of fuel and energy for your daily needs.
Sometimes it may not be possible for a home in a perfect location where we will get all the basic needs within a reasonable reach. In such a situations,the alternative would be to become self sufficient. Self sufficiency means to have a good garden tended by ourself which can give enough food for a normal family. For the energy requirements we require facilities for harnessing the solar energy supported by water mill within the compound itself.
There will be a common meeting point if these two conditions are met. The green houses of this nature will be less dependent for their energy supply from their local grid which means more contribution towards a better environment.
Finally imagine that you have succeeded in finding a location,where the scope for self sufficiency and easy reach for your basic needs are available. In other words you are having the best of every thing but not up to the satisfying level. In that case you have to concentrate on the best architectural design. We have to go for such a design of the house and the surroundings so that the requirement of the energy is as little as possible,a design of the house where there will be coolness in summer and enough warmth in winters.
You are already in the right track by less using of the air-conditioning and heating and by this healthy designing you have further reduced the power consumption. But you can add still further when you insist on certified energy content appliances and the consumption of energy will be further less again.
The acquiring of a green home is not the only avenue for helping the environment. We have to insist for the products which have caused less damage to the environment at the time of their production and have to compulsorily use the products which are bio degradable for cleaning purposes etc.
The acquiring of a green home is a part of our efforts for an environmentally healthy atmosphere. Still this is not enough,we can go for many more things without any Herculean effort. We have to be particular about the products which have not caused any damage to the environment at the time of its production and the cleaning products which we are going to use are bio degradable.
